Not much to talk about on this one. We didn't play well at all. I was very tired before the game even started. I just could not get up for this game tonight. No energy in me. A few of the guys came really late. They didn't have a chance to warm up at all. I don't think the heat was a factor, but it was pretty warm. The misters were even on in the dugout.
Riverpark is a good team. They find a way to get on base. They also play good D. The pitchers pitches are sweet and fat. They look so good. You just want to hit it so hard. I was swinging way to hard at the pitch. For some reason we stuggled tonight with hitting. Can't wait for the rematch later on in the season. We need to settle the score at 1-1. Plus the playoffs are right around the corner. That's what counts!
WEEK FOUR. Game at 810pm.
NewCovenant (3-1) Loses to RiverPark 6-1.
OFFENSE:
We just couldn't get anything going offensively. Didn't score the run until the fourth inning. They played good Defense, but all in all we just couldn't hit any gaps or holes.
I went 0-3. Lazy ground out to third. Fielders choice at second. Fly out to deep Left center.
NO RBI's.
DEFENSE:
You can't do much on Defense if they keep on hitting the ball into the holes all over the field. I would shift left over more into the hole and then they would hit it down the line. They are good hitters.
Had a ton of Balls hit over my head at third. A few were hit to my left, out of my reach, in the hole. I only got my glove on one ball tonight. It was hit to my right. I just closed my glove before the ball even got to me. It was a back handed grab. The ball went off the tip of the glove. It was an Error! I know.

mens softball league. wk3
Alright! Felt a little bit better before tonight's game. It was a late one though. Started at 915pm. I planned on getting there early this time. So I can have plenty of time to warm-up the old legs and arm. However, after I drove into the parking lot and got out of the car, I noticed I forgot my cleats at home. Got back into the car and went all the way home to get them. Now I was going to be late. Didn't have much time to stretch or throw the ball around.
It was great to have Pat come out and watch the game. It was nice to have a fan come out and root us on. Go Team! Go NewCov! (I wanted to show off my skills.)
This was a good game for us. We didn't hit the ball well at all at times, but scored a lot of runs. Our Defense was again solid the first 5 innings. Our sixth is always a tough inning to get out of. We either start to get tired or the other teams bats finally get going and find the holes. Of course our errors don't help. Here's the wrap up for game three.
WEEK THREE. Game at 915pm.
New Covenant smokes New Harvest 12-5.
OFFENSE:
We hit first scoring 3 runs.
We Just kept moving the runners on base with singles and doubles. Scoring anyway we could. Good hustle got us a extra bag here and there.
I snapped my two game hit streak.
I went 0-5 tonight. Three sacrifice flies to left. Flied out to deep left center. The fielder made a great play. He caught it up against the fence. Ground out to third on a lazy chopper. (I think I beat the throw.)
Got 3 RBI's.
DEFENSE:
Held them scoreless for 4 innings.
Bob pitched great. He caught a few line drives up the middle. Turned a double play.
Barnes made a good play at second. He even added a little hop/skip throw to the bag.
Baker was nails at short as usual.
The out field played well. They can cover a lot of ground out there.
I had 2 put outs tonight playing third base. I love getting those hard hit grounders that get a good high pop before they reach you. They just give you a lot of time to throw the runner out. Plus the dirt in the in-field at this park isn't the best. Anything hit hard and stays low could stay low or bounce up in your face in a hurry. You never know.
I got a little nervous in the sixth again. There was two on and no out and we were up by only 9. You never know in church league softball. The sticks get going and the momentum changes and before you know it, your down a run. I have seen many teams come back and win like that. They score like 8-9 runs in the final inning.
The game was ended in a "Pickle" run down between second and third. Wow.

mens softball league. wk2
Another week of church softball. It took me a whole week to heal from the last game. The arm felt better today, but still isn't back to normal. The guys on the team tell me it's cause, "You're not as young as you once were." I probably need to warm up a lot more. Or throw the ball around during the week. I'll get back into shape before you know it. With that being said, I hurt my groin (man muscle) tonight pretty good. Still burns a little. Need some sportscreme! Yeah baby! That will do it!
I'm having a lot of fun. So glad I decided to play this year. I look forward to the games and the fellowship with the guys each week. Forgot the camera again. And didn't have a fan base to snap them for me anyways. The later night games are harder for the wife and kids to make it out there. It's past their bed times. Here's the game recap for game two.
WEEK TWO. Game at 8:10pm.
NewCov beat EV Free Fresno Church 8-6
I hear this is one of the toughest teams to beat in the league.
We started out with good quick sticks. Scored 5 in the first.
Held them scoreless for four.
I went 2-5. Two hard left field pokes for singles. Flew out to left and left center. Just got robbed by the short shop on a hard hit liner in the gap. He snagged it right out of the air.
I got no RBI's. Scored only one run.
Had to slide (SAFE) into third on a close play. I was at first and the play was at the plate. So I took another base on the single to left. Chris Miller scored from Second.
We played good defense in the first 5 innings. Turned a few double plays up the middle. We did have a few costly errors on tough plays in the sixth.
I had one ball ripped over my head at third out of my reach. And another one just got screamed down the line. Should have gotten it. I did react a little late. I stretched out a far as I could to my right. Only about a inch or two short. I need to play closer to the line more. I'm a lot quicker to my left anyways. Plus Baker is at short and he's a stinking' vacuum! He has a lot of range too.
It got really interesting in the sixth. We were up 6 (I believe) and they loaded them up with o outs. The go ahead run was up to bat a few times in the final inning. We held them though.

mens softball league. wk1
I started playing on the NewCov Men's Softball Team again this season. It was nice to be back on the team again. I haven't played in years. I had played every year for a long time. I've also played in the co-ed leagues too. My wife played a few seasons as well with me. Church league softball can be a lot of fun. And it can be a great time of fellowship and outreach with others in the church and the community. But sometimes it can get a little to competitive. And that's what I love about it! Play to Win!
The men's league plays on Monday nights now at Bethany Church. We have a really good team this year. Our defense is pretty solid. And our sticks are good. Plenty of speed as well. (No speed from me. I just move my arms and legs really fast.) We should do well. I think we can win it this year. Make sure to come back here every Monday night for the duration of the season to see how we did. Or better yet, come to see how I did! (I know... There's no I in TEAM. But there is a ME.) I hope to have some pictures and maybe even some video too in weeks to come! So here's week one.
WEEK ONE. Game at 7:05pm.
NewCov Crushed Trinity Church 15-0
They were short on guys. Only played 7 guys in the field.
Bob pitched a great game. Got a three hitter to his name. Runners only reached two base once.
Our defense played great.
Scott Borman had a "SportCenter TopTen" diving catch out in Right Field.
I played third base the whole game. Had one put out. No errors!
Hitting was a little slow at first. But we got it going in time.
At the plate, I went 1-4. In-field single to third. Fly-out to Left. Line Drive out to Short. Foul-Tip K.
I scored one run.
