(photo from raiders.com)
The Oakland Raiders passed up the chance to get (QB) Matt Leinart from USC and got (S) Michael Huff from Texas instead.
Why? Why? Why I ask?!?!
I know Michael Huff will improve the secondary alot. And I know we just signed (QB) Aaron Brooks from the Saints, but come on get the young fresh kid a shot. Matt is ready to play now. He's smart and he's a winner. He totally could have been the next Kenny Stabler for the Silver and Black Attack. I guess I should be use to this by now. If you are a Raider fan than you know that we always pick up all the "old players" and let them play a few more years with us until they are totally washed up. Then they return to their original teams for a day to retire as a member of that team.
Oh well.... Art Shell likes this Texas kid. So..... I guess..... so do I.

bad WOW.
Okay.... one word to describe our hotel rooms this time in Los Angeles..... WOW!
(And that's not a good WOW, that's a bad WOW.)
(photos taken by WRP)
I took these photos with my back to the walls on each side of the room.
-These rooms were only 9' x 11' small.
-The fire alarm went off at 430am.
-It had 2 twin beds of different heights pushed together to create a queen bed.
-One bed was as hard as the floor. The other bed was just a little harder.
-The window faced a brick wall.
-The Climate control knob was broken.
-So the room was HOT or very COLD.
-The alarm clock didn't work.
-No internet in the rooms.
-The room smelled like a dirty cigar room.
I sure hope we don't have to stay at this place for the next part of the gig.

quick trip.
Just got back from a quick trip to Los Angeles. The gig was two travel days and only one work day. The work was 12 hours long though. We loaded-in all of the 100 moving lights and the majority of the 100 conventional fixtures on Thursday. Live Light's, "top guys" Mark Willhoite (bottom left), Eric Larson (left), and I (right) will go back in a few days for two weeks to finish up the load-in and to start programing for the week long show.

Stay tuned for more on this gig.....

great speaker.
The other day I got to hear a keynote speaker at the FFA conference. His name is Roger Crawford. I really enjoyed his 45 minute talk. He didn't talk about the FFA or anything about livestock or crops.
(photo taken by WRP)
He is a natural born motivational speaker. He was born with only one finger on his right hand and two fingers on his left. He also has only half of his left leg. He says he is a motavitional speaker that happens to have a disablity, rather than saying he's an disabled people who is a motitavational speaker. I was totally inspired by him. He sees everything in his life as, "the glass is half full, rather than half empty."

FFA load-in.
We've been loading-in since wednesday afternoon. It's gonna be seven separate shows for the FFA Conference, general sessions, at the Selland Arena. It's been a lot of fun to play with the 24 VL's and learn more about the Whole Hog II. The more practice the better. Practice hopefully will make perfect.

I never thought about pressing the "ANY" key before. And to think that all those times I was asked to press the any key, but never did. They should make a "ANY" key. It would be neat.

radio worship.
Sometimes I turn up the volume on the radio and worship the Lord. I put it on a christian station and rock out. I Like to sing loud over the speakers. I try not to embarrassment myself, but it happens.
I heard a new song for the first time on my way to work and then again on my way home from work. This song right now is my favorite song. I love the chorus. (Maybe you have already heard it.) This would be fun to sing at church for a feature and then maybe even a worship song.
(chorus)
My Savior loves, My Savior lives
My Savior’s always there for me
My God: He was, my God; He is
My God is always gonna be

my new car.
I got a "new car" last night! It's really a used car, but it's new to me! My wife and I have been sharing one car for about five months now. We've been looking a car for quite awhile and finally one worked out for us. We don't have much money to spend so it was really tough to find anything. We wanted something that could get me to work and church and back. But didn't want to waste our money on a P.O.S.
(You know what I mean?!?!)
So.... two days ago my father-in-law got this e-mail about a car for sale. He told me about it. We checked it out. I bought it. It was that easy. Yeah Baby!!!

easter weekend.
How did you spend your easter weekend?
Did you hang out with family and friends?
DId you have a easter egg hunt?
How about a large easter lunch or dinner?
Did you help out at your church?
Well.... I did get to hang out with friends and family. I did have a large ham dinner. But I did miss the my sons first easter egg hunt. I really wanted to be there, but I was working. I was doing the lighting for Northside Church at the Savemart center. This was the second year Live Light has done the lighting and video for this huge outreach event. There was an estimated 11,000 people in attendance. Here are two pics that were on the front page of the Fresno Bee.
(photos from fresnobee.com)
The service was a hour and an half long. It was full of kidz & adult choirs, a long sermon, communion, a high school drum core, videos and last but not least, two main headliners. They were Christian Music Artist Natalie Grant, and Actor Steven Baldwin. Natalie sung her song, "What Are You Waiting For," before the message and then wrapped up the whole service with a inspiration concert. Where as Steven was interviewed for about ten to fifteen minutes after communion. I really enjoyed being there and running the lighting console. I liked Natalie Grant's music and sound, plus Steven Baldwin's testimony was really interesting to listen to as well.
I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of this gig with my digital camera. But some of the other guys did though. So as soon as I can, I'll get some of those shots to you in a post. (If they are any good.) Plus I'll dig up some New Covenant Easter photos for this year as well. (I was the Lighting Designer, you know?!?!?)

church bulletins bloopers.
I came across some of these church bulletin bloopers when I was surfing the net the other day. Some of them are pretty funny. I picked ten of my favorites and put them together in a top ten list. TOP TEN CHURCH BULLETIN BLOOPERS:
(#10.) “Tonight Pastor Hodges will begin a 6-part series on the Book of Genesis. Were Adam and Eve really naked in the Garden? Come see for yourself.”
(#09.) “At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be "What Is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice.
(#08.) “The choir will be sinning at tonight’s service”
(#07.) “Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Smith will assist with the mailing of the newsletter and stapling of the Annual Report to church members.
(#06.) “The message tonight by Pastor will be in Matthew 3 where Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by Jordan in the John.”
(#05.) “The May meeting of the church finance committee will be hell as usual.”
(#04.) “Notice to all men attending the Father’s Day Banquet: A sports jacket may be worn to the dinner – but no trousers.”
(#03.) ”This evening at 7 p.m. there will be a hymn sing in the park across from the church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.”
(#02.) “Ladies' Bible Study will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B.S. is done.
(#01.) ”Weight Watchers will meet at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.”

back home.
Just got back from the Las Vegas gig tonight. Here are some of the photos I took of the Pelco Tradeshow Booth at the ISC West conference at the Sands Expo Center.
(photos taken by WRP)
Eric Larson, the video guy for Live Light, (also the guy standing in the picture above) and I flew a 16' octagon truss for a video theatre. The truss had 16 moving lights on it. Inside the theatre there were 12 cubes stacked to form a HUGE 16:9 (wide screen) video wall. Over in a different area, we had four cubes stacked to form a mini (104") video wall by the stock car. Both areas had video and sound systems as well.08 Varilite 2201
